18584: Research Grounded in African Experiences: Inclusive Editorial Practices

The PDW draws on the premise that much like in other research fields, patterns in management studies suggest that the discipline’s knowledge base (which are seen in peer-reviewed academic publications) show an underrepresentation of African experiences. In this PDW, we examine the notion of highlighting editorial practices that support the publishing process for authors based in Africa, as well as those authors based elsewhere in the world who are interested in developing management theories grounded in African experiences. Part 1: Editor panel consists of journal editors who will share their experience of developing editorial practices that allow a range of voices representing diverse contexts across Africa to be accounted for in journal publications. The editors will discuss how the publication process and editorial practices can be reimagined to include practices that go beyond hosting paper development workshops and share their experiences in highlighting alternative dissemination strategies to the authors of rejected manuscripts. Part 2 is a roundtable session designed to support scholars pursuing research anchored in African experiences in the development of their ideas or working papers with an aim to publish in mainstream journals. We will offer tangible feedback in participants’ efforts to refine their work and navigate the publication process, with the vision to create a strengthened network of scholars committed to advancing research anchored in African experiences Ultimately, this initiative aims to elevate the potential of Africa-based research on the global academic stage.
