The aim of this workshop is to help instructors create effective and engaging case studies tailored to their own teaching objectives. Case studies are powerful tools for encouraging active learning, critical thinking, and practical problem-solving in students. However, utilizing case studies in the classroom can also have drawbacks. For instance, case studies may put a financial burden on students who have to pay for the case studies, or case studies that are available don’t seamlessly match the learning objective that the professor wants to execute. In this session, we address these issues by helping participants develop their own case studies. Specifically, participants will learn the key components of successful case studies, explore different types and formats, develop their own case studies, and discuss best practices for facilitating class discussions around them. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a draft outline of a customized case study and strategies for refining and implementing it in their classrooms.
This workshop is open to anyone who is interested.
