11252: Approaches to Centering Indigenous Organizing & Strategizing in Management and Organization Studies

This PDW is designed to support researchers who set out to center Indigenous management, organizing and strategizing practices. It will focus on fostering a deeper understanding of three (entwinned) aspects central to Indigenous research: community-informed research, research-led outreach, and research-informed teaching. The workshop will first highlight research projects that explore Indigenous organizing and strategizing. Panelists will share vivid illustrations from their research in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South America, with space for audience questions. Second, participants will engage in facilitated interactive small-group discussions to share and collaboratively work through their own examples. Different self-selected roundtables will focus on sharing experiences, questions and challenges related to (community-informed) research, (research-led) outreach, or (research-informed) teaching, with both participants and panelists contributing questions and examples to work through collaboratively. Building on the success of the IARIMOS (International Academy of Indigenous Research in Management and Organizations) network and related conferences, this PDW will be a space to share experiences and learn with each other. Scholars will benefit from hearing about and exchanging research experiences and questions, and participating in discussions and questions about their own research, teaching, and outreach. This PDW will offer a supportive space for early-careers researchers undertaking work with and for Indigenous communities through connecting them with others who can share what they have learnt and experienced. More experienced scholars, who are curious about or beginning projects that center Indigenous knowledges (including in supervision or advisory roles for students), will gain insights into the unique aspects of conducting research with Indigenous communities.
