17226: LGBTQIA+ in Research, Teaching, and Society: What’s Next?

As academics, we discuss the relevance of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) policies for the LGBTQIA+ community in several domains. We explore these policies in our papers, showing the impact on companies’ performance indicators and reputation; we advocate for the continuous improvement of supporting practices for LGBTQIA+ communities of scholars and students in our institutions; we leverage examples of DEI in our courses to make students aware of its importance. In this PDW, we gather scholars with different experiences, aiming to have a well-rounded perspective on “what’s next” when we think about the evolution of DEI policies for LGBTQIA+ individuals. The panelists will focus on their experiences as LGBTQIA+ advocates in their institutions, on the importance of doing research on DEI policies, on the relevance of discussing these themes with students, and so on. Through panelists’ presentations, we aim to (a) make participants aware of the issues being discussed in different communities of scholars, students, and active members of society, (b) combine perspectives from senior and young scholars to discuss possible future avenues, (c) open the floor for alternative perspectives on LGBTQIA+ from scholars with different backgrounds and different experiences. Presentations will be followed by interactive roundtables. Panelists and panel organizers lead each roundtable. The roundtable sessions allow participants to suggest new perspectives for representation, share ideas and discuss strategies for the future of DEI research and policies for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

In the first part of the PDW, panelists will present. This part is open to everyone. In the second part, we will have interactive round tables. Registration for the round tables is necessary.
