Corporate political strategy (CPA) scholarship examines the interactions between firms and government, often conceptualized as a “political marketplace” where firms provide information, money, and votes, and policymakers produce policies. Traditionally, CPA research has focused on tactics like lobbying and political contributions and their firm-level impacts, particularly within the U.S. context. However, emerging research is expanding in creative directions, examining a broader range of tactics and geographies, congruence between tactics (e.g., lobbying and corporate social responsibility (CSR)), tactic visibility, and ethical implications. Scholars are also moving beyond firm-level analyses to consider the role of individual practitioners and CPA’s societal impact. Global contexts are receiving more focus, with studies exploring geopolitics, political discourse, and bribery. Despite these advances, CPA research too often remains compartmentalized by specific tactics and geographic focus. This PDW seeks to bring together established and emerging CPA scholars—especially those interested in exploring new topics—to foster collaboration and build a sense of community. Serving as an idea incubator, the PDW will nurture fresh perspectives and innovative approaches. Ultimately, our goal is to bridge gaps in CPA scholarship, driving collaborative innovation and a deeper understanding of complex firm-government dynamics worldwide.
