In this session, we will draw from our unique partnership of immersing doctoral students from the United States into the rich tradition and contemporary work of the social and behavioural sciences in the United Kingdom. The unique challenges and opportunities in professional doctoral education will be explored, focusing on the role of experiential learning in bridging theoretical knowledge and practical application. We will discuss innovative approaches to engage scholar-practitioners in embodied learning experiences that prepare them for the complexities and politics of organizational leadership. Participants will gain insights into designing a curriculum that fosters critical reflection, embraces uncertainty, and develops the capacity to translate advanced academic knowledge into real-world contexts. This session is of interest to TLC@AOM participants because the growing demand for professional doctoral programs worldwide has sparked interest in effective teaching and learning approaches for this unique student population. Faculty are seeking insights to help students translate academic knowledge into practical applications and enhance the depth and relevance of professional doctoral education, which differs from traditional Ph.D. and master's level instruction.
This session is part of the Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC@AOM). Space is limited; separate complimentary TLC@AOM pre-registration on a first-come, first-served basis is required. The TLC@AOM registration deadline is 27 July 2025, unless sold out. Register for TLC@AOM.
