This paper examines how organizations can effectively contribute to addressing grand challenges, particularly in the context of extreme events. Focusing on the war against Ukraine as a contemporary grand challenge, we explore how organizations can develop structures and strategies that enable them to participate in collective action and provide humanitarian aid under extreme pressure. We investigate the case of the NPO #WeAreAllUkrainians by adopting a qualitative research methodology and drawing on an exclusive set of data. Our analysis reveals three crucial strategies: creating a hub structure, orchestrating ambiguity, and learning in motion. These strategies, which evolve over time, contribute to organizational resilience and facilitate robust action in the face of grand challenges. Based on these findings, we propose a model of organizational strategies that put robust action into practice, offering valuable insights for both theory and practice by providing a blueprint for organizations seeking to effectively respond to crises.
