Social entrepreneurs create social value by addressing social issues such as environment, poverty, and hygiene. They mobilize resources to overcome resource constraints when pursuing the social mission. However, little is known regarding how resource mobilization interacts with social value creation in social entrepreneurship, limiting our understanding of how they can develop in interactions. To investigate how social entrepreneurs create social value through resource mobilization, we conducted a multiple-case study of social enterprises in India. By discovering co-evolving processes of resource mobilization and social value creation, this study advances our understanding of social entrepreneurship by differentiating between base social value and supplementary social value and showing the role of resource mobilization in diversifying social value creation. We highlight accessing resources and sharing resources as key activities of resource mobilization for social value creation.
