The existing research on knowledge hiding mainly focuses on the knowledge hider, with little attention given to supervisors’ reactions to perceived knowledge hiding. Drawing on self-regulation theory, we propose a three-way interaction model to in-vestigate the ef-fect of supervisors’ perception of subordinate knowledge hiding on abusive supervision. Specifically, we argue that team performance and supervisor bottom-line mentality will moderate the relationship between perceived subordinate knowledge hiding and abusive su-pervision, both separately and jointly. In the current study, we conducted a multilevel field research with 217 dyadic data (nested in 52 groups) and a scenario experiment to verify our hypotheses. Results from the field study and scenario experiment both suggested a signifi-cant three-way interaction where team performance and supervisor bottom-line mentality jointly moderated the relationship between perceived subordinate knowledge hiding and abusive supervision. Supervisor’ s perception of subordinate knowledge hiding will instigate supervisory abuse when team performance is low and supervisor shows high level of bot-tom-line mentality.
