This study unpacks digital transformation as digital technology adoption and corresponding organizational transformation and explores the interactive effects of these two interdependent components on organizational resilience. Using data from Chinese listed companies during the COVID-19 pandemic, the study empirically tests the impact of firm digital technology adoption on organizational resilience, as well as the moderating role of organizational rigidity. Results show that firm digital technology adoption positively relates to two dimensions of organizational resilience: stability and flexibility. However, this positive effect is diminished in firms characterized by higher levels of resource, routine, or relational rigidity. This study contributes to the understanding of how digitalization influences organizational resilience and highlights the critical role of organizational factors in successful digital transformation.
