Gaining and maintaining access to field sites is fundamental for collecting rich data that advances organizational theory and deepens our understanding of organizational life. Field access is a complex process, involving careful relationship building, ethical considerations, continuous negotiation, and meaningful ways of giving back to research sites. As we encourage plurality in organizational research, it is important to access different sites, but some settings can present unique challenges for researchers. This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) brings together accomplished field researchers who have navigated access across diverse organizational settings - from military and healthcare settings to informal markets, social enterprises, and high-security prisons - to help emerging and established scholars navigate their own site access and data collection challenges. Through panel discussions and interactive breakout sessions, participants will explore four key themes: securing and maintaining field site access, ethical considerations and managing boundaries, creating reciprocal value with research sites, and navigating data collection in sensitive settings.

To participate in this session, we encourage you to submit a short (300 words or less) description of (i) the setting you're trying to get access to, (ii) the current challenge you're facing and (iii) what you hope to get out of the session.
