The strategic human capital literature has emphasized the importance of human capital in shaping firms’ behavior and performance. While this statement applies broadly, human capital is especially critical in nascent firms, where it is often the only valuable resource. Traditionally, the academic communities studying human capital and entrepreneurship have operated independently. This PDW aims to bridge these two lines of research, fostering rigorous and relevant scholarship at the intersection of these areas. We explore the multifaceted role of human capital in entrepreneurial firms by bringing together scholars who have studied various aspects of the topic using a range of methodologies. The session is designed to be developmental and interactive, promoting the cross-pollination of perspectives and the generation of novel research directions. The event will be especially valuable for junior scholars interested in human capital, entrepreneurship, and the interplay of these domains.
