21352: Dynamic Network Analysis = New Research Questions? Dynamic Networks in Organization Studies

This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) discusses how cutting-edge methods for analyzing social networks dynamics could contribute to the theoretical development in organization studies. These methods allow us to better understand factors that contribute to how social relationships evolve, and how the evolution of social networks contributes to essential organizational outcomes. In this PDW we (1) introduce participants to a selection of emerging methods that allow to study social network dynamics: stochastic actor-based models (SAOMs), relational event models (REMs), Dynamic Network Actor Models (DyNAM) and dynamic exponential random graphs models (ERGM, STERGM, LERGM). We specifically highlight the assumptions and differences between these models to guide participants to the models that might be most useful for their own research; (2) we highlight the range of new research questions that could be addressed with these methods and acknowledge the epistemological boundaries of each method 3) illustrate how these methods can be applied to research questions across different fields within the Academy; (4) share practical insights on how to create publishable contributions and navigate the publication process; and (5) generate the dialogue between the participants and subject matter experts in a Q&A panel session.
