This professional development workshop builds on the well-attended 2023 PDW on writing and publishing theory, by refining and expanding its content to address key aspects of publishing in respected management journals. The PDW aims to equip participants with a clear understanding of the landscape for theory work and the nuances of submitting to various journals. In the first part of the workshop, organizers will provide an overview of theory paper publication across management journals, including data on the number of submissions received and published, and a facilitated conversation about the need for theory and journals’ interest in publishing theory papers. In the second part of the workshop, participants will attend roundtables dedicated to 20 management journals, engaging directly with editors-in-chief and associate editors. This roundtable format allows participants to focus on theory-publishing outlets of interest and draw out distinctive criteria for publishing theory papers at these journals. Overall, the PDW offers a collaborative environment where established and emerging scholars can connect, ask questions, share insights, and reflect on the intricacies of crafting and submitting theory papers, thereby supporting the development of impactful theory work and strengthening scholarly networks.
