Submissions of sustainability research to SIM journals are increasing. While many authors expect that these fit well in SIM journals, papers are (desk) rejected due to a “lack of fit with the journal”. Without clear guidance on how sustainability scholars can frame their research relevant to SIM, some sustainability researchers may look for other outlets. As such, we as SIM community risk missing out on rich data sets that analyzed appropriately would offer much to business ethics research. In order to help attract a more diverse and interdisciplinary audience to the SIM community, editors and associate editors from several leading SIM journals (Business & Society, Business Ethics Quarterly, Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility, and the Journal of Business Ethics) will share what they expect from sustainability research submitted to their journals. They will discuss how sustainability scholars can best speak to an audience of business ethics scholars and SIM researchers and present some of the criteria they look for in papers. The panel of editors will share examples of the pitfalls of papers that are (desk) rejected as well as outline how sustainability scholars can craft a SIM contribution to their sustainability papers. In the second part of the PDW, the participants will receive feedback from an experienced scholar on selected papers that fit the target journal in a roundtable discussion.
