Computational models are gaining increasing attention in the management literature. They allow modeling and analyzing the behavior of complex systems of heterogeneous interacting agents and experimenting with different interaction structures (markets, networks, organizations, etc.). As such, they are an excellent tool for studying processes of aggregation of distributed action – a phenomenon close to the interests of behavioral strategy. This workshop will allow the participants to interact with prominent scholars in the field and to work and practice formal modeling in an interactive session. In the first part of the workshop, the panel will discuss the role of formal models in behavioral strategy research, how formal models can contribute to and benefit from other research methods, the process of designing and implementing a computational model, and the most interesting and challenging future applications of computational models. In the interactive session, attendees will explore how large language models (LLMs) can assist in modeling organizational phenomena. The workshop is open to participants with or without prior experience and technical skills in programming and modeling.
