Research on compensation has significantly advanced our understanding of how compensation systems can distinguish organizations from their competitors and drive performance. However, given the heterogeneity of regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, and ethical considerations across global contexts, compensation scholars have highlighted the importance of adopting a comparative approach to examining the determinants and consequences of compensation systems. Our Professional Development Workshop (PDW) addresses this need by focusing on the life cycle of the employment relationship, with an emphasis on three central stages: attraction, motivation, and attrition. Specifically, we aim to explore, for example, how factors such as pay transparency initiatives, industry structures, and immigration and refugee legislations influence compensation systems and, in turn, affect the cycles of attracting, motivating, and retaining talent. Our PDW consists of two key components: (1) panel discussions centered on these stages and (2) interactive roundtable sessions, offering attendees the opportunity to engage with panelists for more personalized discussions.
