Visibility is a pivotal yet multifaceted element in building a successful scientific career, particularly for women. Despite advancements in gender equality, systemic barriers such as unconscious biases, structural inequalities, and societal norms persist, limiting women’s visibility in academic and leadership roles. The rise of digital platforms further complicates this dynamic, amplifying both opportunities and challenges for self-promotion and academic branding. This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) provides an interactive space to address these issues and develop actionable strategies to enhance visibility throughout women’s academic careers. The network will afterwords be cultivated by the newly founded community W:Science – a Technical University Munich Initiative on LinkedIn. The workshop focuses on four key areas: • Understanding visibility: Exploring various forms of visibility in —research, practice, and service—and their distinct roles in career advancement • Strategic visibility: Practical guidance on utilizing tools like social media to build personal brands, foster networks, and highlight scientific contributions effectively • Risks and unintended visibility: Navigating challenges such as backlash due to counter-stereotypical perceptions or unwanted attention stemming from non-research roles or controversial affiliations • Visibility across career stages: Analyzing the impact of visibility on reputation and progression, particularly for early-career researchers, while addressing trade-offs By engaging with these themes, participants will gain insights into navigating the complexities of visibility and leveraging it as a tool for career growth and leadership development.

There are no additional fees. The PDW will consist of two parts: (1) Panel discussions with our renowned scholars (2) Round tables with focus topics for increased interaction
