Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the healthcare workforce, challenging traditional notions of expertise, authority, and organizational roles. AI’s ability to automate routine tasks, shift decision-making processes, and influence interprofessional relationships is disrupting established boundaries of responsibility and authority. These changes demand a re-examination of how professional roles and relationships evolve in response to technological innovation and organizational adaptation. This workshop provides a focused venue for management scholars to explore the implications of AI on healthcare roles and organizational dynamics. Key questions include: How does AI alter the allocation of responsibility and the authority of healthcare professionals? What are the implications of AI-driven task shifting for interprofessional collaboration and organizational power dynamics? How can organizations balance professional autonomy with accountability in an AI-integrated environment? The discussion will explore the interplay between technological change and role adaptation, as well as the evolving regulatory frameworks that mediate these shifts. By examining these phenomena through theoretical and empirical lenses, the workshop seeks to advance a research agenda offering new insights into how healthcare organizations can adapt their structures and cultures to navigate the changing landscape of work and authority driven by AI.
