14172: Board and TMT Diversity: A Paper Development Workshop

This PDW builds on and expands the PDW On-Boarding Diversity in Corporate Boards Research: A Paper Development Workshop, which ran successfully in 2018, 2019, and 2023 (while being in hiatus during the 2020-2022 COVID years). It is designed for researchers in the field of diversity, corporate governance, and upper echelons/top management teams (TMT). Highly experienced scholars, many with editorial experience, will mentor and provide feedback to more junior scholars on papers close to journal submission (not under review). Consideration will be given to a wide range of topics, including but not limited to studies that: (1) consider wider outcomes of board / TMT diversity beyond firm financial performance, such as sustainability, workplace diversity and inclusion, employee well-being, innovation and creativity, and improved stakeholder relations; (2) develop novel explanations for how and when board and TMT diversity affects firm outcomes; (3) consider novel conceptualizations of board and TMT diversity; (4) provide international comparisons or new methodological approaches. At the AOM conference, each paper receives detailed oral feedback from two experienced scholars, who will highlight strengths and areas for development, and address authors’ related questions. This PDW responds to calls from journal editors and review boards who increasingly highlight the beneficial role of “friendly reviews” in the publishing process and offers a unique opportunity for AOM members to receive high quality, in person feedback on their work.

Submit your manuscript to Cathrine Seierstad (Cathrine.Seierstad@usn.no); submission opens on May 24th and closes June 1st 2025. In addition to the standard 40-page paper, please add one extra page including the following information: * An extended abstract. * A list of key questions authors request feedback on. * The authors’ career tenure (e.g. PhD student or number of years post-PhD). * A confirmation that at least one of the author(s) commit to attend AOM in person (feedback will only be offered in person). Decisions will be communicated by June 15. Spaces are limited and acceptance is competitive, so preference will be given to papers close to submission to a refereed journal and to junior scholars. You will also be notified of your allocated mentor. The PDW will be held during the AOM conference in person only, in a round table format. Participants will be allocated to tables with their assigned mentors. Other participants can also register and listen in on the sessions. The PDW organizers will provide a short welcome and debrief comments.
