Manuscript reviewers play a critical role in the scientific process, driving publication decisions that set standards for future research. Despite reviewers’ importance, most scholars learn to review manuscripts from reviews of their own research–a resource that is often limited and inconsistent in quality. For students and junior scholars, this can lead to emulating poor-quality reviews, which perpetuates bad practices and affects the broader scientific process. This PDW includes insights from Journal of Managerial Psychology (JMP) associate editors, offering guidance on effective reviewing. Participants will analyze examples of high and low-quality reviewer comments and engage in interactive, small group discussions with JMP editors to evaluate sections of an example manuscript.
