This PDW addresses the growing demand for teaching approaches that incorporate social innovation within the context of business and management education. Social innovation, defined broadly to include social entrepreneurship, cross-sector partnerships, and initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, plays a critical role in addressing societal and environmental challenges. Many members of the Academy of Management teach these topics to our students in different formats and schools. The aim of this workshop is to foster a creative dialogue on innovative teaching practices that enhance student engagement and learning, to critically assess the current state of social innovation teaching and the need to adapt content to resonate with younger generations, and to explore how teaching social innovation, under a Humboldtian model, builds upon existing knowledge and research on social innovation. Through this PDW, we seek to develop actionable teaching strategies, share resources, and inspire each other by learning from different pedagogical approaches and addressing existing challenges for incorporating social innovation into existing programs.
