The ownership structure of a firm is a central determinant of who holds power, which stakeholders are included in decision-making, and the extent to which non-financial goals are prioritised. This PDW introduces participants to alternatives to the dominant capitalist model of corporate ownership and invites them to join in a critical reflection on how to evaluate the impact of alternative ownership forms in facilitating a greater balance of power and inclusion in the workplace, while supporting human and planetary values. This workshop utilizes a panel of scholars to open a dialogue, followed by participant roundtable discussions and a plenary to advance an egalitarian exploration of the topic from a diversity of perspectives. This PDW addresses important aspects of alternative ownership underrepresented in the literature by focusing on the practical challenges of adopting and implementing alternative models, emphasizing the normative aspects of alternative ownership, and giving credence to radical approaches that question the foundational assumptions - such as profit maximization - of the dominant capitalist ownership model. In support of this critical analysis, we identify five key dimensions: employee empowerment, power dynamics with other stakeholders, inclusion and representation, organizational and managerial consequences, redefining success.
