The proposed professional development workshop (pdw) involves an exploration of the interface between Management and Organization Studies (MOS), on the one hand, and Business Ethics (BE), on the other. While BE perspectives have appeared in mainstream MOS discussions, journals, and conference, the relation between the epistemological, ontological and practical aspects of the two fields remains underexplored. Emergent literature on organizational ethics has begun to create useful bridges between MOS and BE, but several areas remain in need of development for instance, developing the relation between descriptive and normative approaches to organizing, relating individual-level ethical decision-making processes to organizational level processes, and understanding the ethical implications of the emerging impact-agenda in MOS. As organizational scholarship becomes increasingly concerned with issues of social and environmental responsibility, the need to dialogue with business ethics literature becomes ever more pressing. The current PDW attempts to explore the underlying theoretical and practical issues involved in this dialogue, and to develop a forward-looking agenda to promote organizational perspectives on ethics. Each of the panellists will bring a unique perspective on this agenda, with a view on establishing a pluralistic, globally-oriented, and multidimensional view on organizational ethics, with an interdisciplinary focus. An outcome of the PDW will be to collectively formulate conceptual, empirical, and practical directions for the development of organizational ethics, with double-facing publication and contribution possibilities in both BE and MOS. Scholars from ethics-related fields, such as sustainability, leadership, behavioural ethics, and critical management studies will find opportunities to contribute to this emerging field.
