Led by Marshall Ganz, this workshop will offer participants an introduction to the pedagogy of public narrative. A leadership craft, public narrative is the process of accessing, articulating and communicating shared values through narrative–specifically, a story of self, a story of us, and a story of now. When crafting public narratives, leaders draw on their moral resources—and those of their communities—to enable collective responses to grand challenges. Through a pedagogical approach that emphasizes the affective and relational realities of leading, participants in this workshop will begin to learn how to craft their own stories of self and to coach their fellow attendees on their respective stories. Participants will therefore have the opportunity to 1) excavate and articulate the life experiences in which their values are grounded and 2) develop the skills required to enable their students to do the same.
