Research on the entertainment sector as an empirical setting in management and organization studies has grown markedly in recent years, with articles nearly tripling in leading academic journals between 2015 and 2023. Past research has explored and advanced knowledge on winner-takes-all dynamics, non-economic objectives among creators, and innovative collaborations making the sector fertile ground for advancing theory. However, data access constraints and the complexity of analyzing text, image, or audio content pose significant challenges to scholarly inquiry. In light of the growing opportunities for future research in this domain, this Professional Development Workshop convenes leading scholars who examine the entertainment industry, enabling them to share perspectives and experiences with colleagues pursuing related work. The session aims to foster an engaging dialogue that will appeal to both established and emerging scholars in this field. By leveraging the entertainment industry’s scope and the expertise of our panelists, the workshop promises a fruitful intellectual exchange for all AOM members.
