A review of best practices for incorporating field trips to cultural institutions, live performances, neighboring universities, and local businesses into undergraduate business school classes. Experienced undergraduate business school educators discuss how to leverage community resources to add spontaneity, interest, real world intensity, and academic breadth to business classes. Practical examples from recent classroom experiences will illustrate general principles. Specific suggestions will cover details such as scheduling, admissions fees and financial assistance, attendance, transportation, accessibility, exceptions for illness, and individual academic deliverables after visits. Student populations drawn from dozens of countries demonstrate the broad appeal of this approach. An informal session structure will allow time for questions and discussion.
This session is part of the Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC@AOM). Space is limited; separate complimentary TLC@AOM pre-registration on a first-come, first-served basis is required. The TLC@AOM registration deadline is 27 July 2025, unless sold out. Register for TLC@AOM.
