In an increasingly globalized world, the ability to collaborate across national and cultural boundaries is essential. This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) explores the challenges and opportunities involved in working with international students in higher education. Key issues such as cultural differences, language barriers, and variations in educational systems will be analyzed. Studies have shown that integrating intercultural training, promoting effective communication, and utilizing innovative technologies like virtual reality (VR) are critical to the success of international academic teams. This workshop introduces VR-based exercises to enhance intercultural understanding and collaboration. Based on interviews and surveys with international students and faculty, including insights from a co-presenter from Singapore, the session offers practical recommendations for universities to overcome challenges and maximize the potential of international learning communities.
This session is part of the Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC@AOM). Space is limited; separate complimentary TLC@AOM pre-registration on a first-come, first-served basis is required. The TLC@AOM registration deadline is 27 July 2025, unless sold out. Register for TLC@AOM.
