Research on organizational injustice has extensively examined its negative impact on work outcomes; however, it remains largely unknown what employees themselves can do to cope with injustice. Drawing upon the functional values of gossip, we posit that workplace gossip may weaken the positive effect of supervisory interactional injustice on retaliation intention, which in turn, reduces employee counter-work behavior. An experience sampling study with 109 full-time employees over 10 workdays supported our hypotheses.
