Family members who work in the family business must navigate the nuances of their family’s influence while also navigating the business challenges. These nuances are more salient when the second-generation (i.e., the founder’s son or daughter) works within the family firm. Since second-generation employees must contend with both the family and business systems, it is imperative that we understand the mechanisms which influence how second-generation family employees will perceive their treatment at work. As such, we embark on a preliminary investigation exploring how second-generation family employees perceive the family’s influence impacts their perceived incivility within the workplace. Moreover, we seek to unveil how justice perceptions can mediate this relationship. Our preliminary findings demonstrate that interpersonal justice perceptions mediates the relationship between family influence and incivility. Discussion, implications, and limitations are investigated.
