25211: Ethics Education Committee Forum: Why Ethics Matter in the Academy (CANCELLED)

The Academy has a strong commitment to ethics since it is the foundation of trust, credibility, and legitimacy in management research, teaching, and practice. In this EEC forum we present and discuss the following relevant themes:

• Sharon Alvarez, Past President of the Academy, University of Pittsburgh, Introduction
• Bidhan (Bobby) Parmar, Darden Business School, University of Virginia: Ethical challenges and opportunities across career stages. Scholars face various pressures at different stages of their careers. In this talk, Dr. Parmar will share some insights from mentoring faculty at different career stages.
• Antoinette Weibel, University of St. Gallen, Engaged Scholarship – Career and Vocation: Good research in these troubled times demands more than navigating a career path. It calls for a deep commitment to integrity and beneficence—a becoming within a professional community grounded in responsibility and care. In this short talk, I will share how engagement and engaged scholarship can take root and grow, drawing both from my role as president of the research ethics committee and, perhaps more importantly, from my own bruised experiences.
• Christian Stutz, University of Jyväskylä: Interdisciplinarity as an early-career challenge: Lessons from engaging with history: Interdisciplinary research is often described as high-risk, high-reward— something early-career scholars are usually advised to avoid. Dr. Christian Stutz shares his experience of engaging with history across the Academy and reflects on doing interdisciplinary work within existing institutional and disciplinary constraints.
